Overview

In a common scenario, BizTalk enables you to integrate and manage automated business processes by exchanging business documents such as purchase orders and invoices between disparate applications, within or across organizational boundaries.

Development for BizTalk Server is done through Microsoft Visual Studio.

With BizTalk Server 2016 you benefit from new hybrid application integration capabilities that help you seamlessly connect on-premises and cloud-based applications.

BizTalk Server 2016 also brings two of Microsoft's core integration platforms – BizTalk Server and Azure Logic Apps – closer, enabling you to connect your on-premises applications to other SaaS applications as well as innovate by using Azure services such as Functions, Cognitive Service, Machine Learning, and more.

How many licenses?

BizTalk Server is licensed under a Per Core model.

Under the Per Core licensing model, each server running BizTalk Server 2016 software must be assigned an appropriate number of BizTalk Server 2016 core licenses.

The number of core licenses needed depends on whether you are licensing the physical server or individual virtual operating system environments (OSEs).

To license a physical server, you must license all the cores in the server, with a minimum of 4 core licenses required for each physical processor in the server. This license covers 2 Cores. This means two of these licenses will cover 4 cores in a phyisical server.

If you would like more information on this, we have an Introduction to Per Core Licensing and Basic Definitions Guide by Microsoft that we can email to you.
