The Sophos antivirus program offers cross-school, multi-platform protection. With first-class detection, ease of installation and flexible licensing structure making it highly cost-effective, is it any wonder that over half the schools in England and Wales now have Sophos AntiVirus installed? Or that all schools in Northern Ireland have access to servers protected by Sophos AntiVirus?
Sophos ofers a suite of special licenses for schools so you can choose the most cost-effective antivirus solution for your circumstances.
All licenses include 24-hour technical support via email or telephone.
In the majority of cases, schools receive virus updates via the Sophos Enterprise Console. This reduces the amount of administration. It also ensures that remote schools can maintain the same level of protection.
For example, Plymouth LEA has arranged for all 110 of its primary, secondary and special schools to receive automatic updates through Enterprise Console. Of the two networks at each school, the "curriculum" network receives the updates and then pushes them out to every PC. Administrators simply need to check the status periodically to ensure that there are no anomolies.
The same with Birmingham LEA. Updates are received by the Learning & Culture IT department server and is pushed out to each school within the LEA. Originally Birmingham schools installed the updates on their network servers, from which the individual curriculum and office computers were automatically updated the next time they logged on. However, Birmingham LEA has speeded up the update process by deploying the Enterprise Console at school network level.
And what do we mean, when we mention Birmingham LEA or Plymouth LEA? Well, Birmingham LEA consists of around 450 schoools and 16,000 users. While Plymouth LEA consists of around 110 schools and 11,000 users.
The number of machines protected protected varies from school to school, as do the platforms they use. Many of the schools protected by Sophos AntiVirus include Netware, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003.
