How it works

To be technical for a moment a new layer, the MicroWorld WinSock Layer (MWL), is placed between the default WinSock2 and the applications. MWL analyses traffic that flows between the mail server and the Internet or your applications.

In addition to providing antivirus and content scanning features, MailScan also has such features as a Generic Attachment Analyzer, automatic compression/decompression, and a comprehensive notification engine, etc.

MailScan uses eScan content security and antivirus solution to scan all email attachments. Incoming and outgoing emails are scanned and cleaned and their contents checked, before your mail server processes them.

All MailScan processes are multi-threaded for faster handling.

All types of attachments are handled by MailScan, including MIME and UUEncoded.

RFC822 attachments, Embedded emails, Multipart-Mixed and Multipart-Digest types are also supported.

Certification

MicroWorld have both Checkmark certification and Virus Bulletin VB100% results.

The Checkmark certification comes from West Coast Labs. They have a virus library with many thousands of different viruses and variants, collected through a bespoke harvesting process.

For a product to be certified to Anti-Virus Checkmark, Level One the product must be able to detect all those viruses which are "In the Wild". This gives a clear and independent indication to end users of those anti-virus products that they can be relied on to perforn to Level One functionality.
