Other Qualified Institutions can include healthcare entities with a major teaching component or libraries owned and operated by a qualified Academic Institution. Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 and Symantec Insight
Probably the hottest thing about Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 is Symantec Insight – competitors don't have anything like it.
It is Symantec's answer to the exponentially growing signature files and their impact on computer resources, etc.
Symantec’s Insight analyses the anonymous software adoption patterns from more than 175 million customer computers to automatically derive highly accurate security ratings for more than 2.5 billion unique software files. This means that Insight has ratings for virtually every software file, good or bad in existence.
This is then used by Norton and Symantec software to check new files against this knowledgebase and either stop or allow them.
Any files that are known to be okay are skipped in scanning. This means something like 70 percent are skipped. This improves scanning speed and reduces hardware churn. It also helps eleimiate false positives.
Meanwhile competing antivirus software, based on the traditional approach, is reactive, looking for digital fingerprints of viruses after they have been discovered. Not only does this tend to take longer when scanning the computer, but today’s criminals work differently. They mutate their malware, creating new, unique threats for each user.
To summarise: Symantec Insight puts Endpoint Protection 12.1 ahead of the competition and will probably keep Symantec ahead for the forseeable future.
